Tamura received her masters from SPU in Marriage and Family and certificate in Medical Family Therapy in 2014, and is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, member of AAMFT and WAMFT. She spent the first decade of her career practicing as a marriage and family therapist and clinical supervisor in the Student Counseling Center on campus and also has experience working in a primary care clinic as a MedFT in the Seattle area. Prior to her graduate training, Tamura worked with children and teenagers in camp and ministry settings, supporting growth and development from a whole-person perspective. Through these experiences, Tamura has developed a passion for supporting teenagers and young adults in processing and owning their unique identities, differentiating from family of origin, maintaining and strengthening relationships in family of choice, and processing spiritual and sexual trauma. She also has experience working in legal practices throughout college and graduate school, sparking her interest in ethics, advocacy and how systems fit within broader contexts. Currently, Tamura is celebrating her role as a teacher and supervisor, appreciating the importance of supporting new clinicians in their development as they enter the field and provide care for clients of their own.
Outside of work, you can find Tamura enjoying all that Seattle has to offer with her husband, dog (Rhododendron), and her family of choice. She loves gardening, cooking/sampling new restaurants, roller skating, cycling and attending concerts of all genres.
